'Perfect': Don Hutchison tells Liverpool to sell three players and complete £120m record transfer instead

Liverpool are expected to be active in the transfer market in 2025 as they aim to fine-tune their squad under Arne Slot.

The Reds completed just one permanent signing in 2025 – which was Federico Chiesa from Juventus – and the Italy international has barely featured since moving to Anfield.

While it remains to be seen if they do any business in January, the summer transfer window promises to be an exciting one for Slot and co, with a host of players linked.

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has keen admirers at Anfield as he continues to produce the goods for the Magpies.

And Don Hutchison suggests he’d offload three Liverpool players to complete a record-breaking move for the Swede.

Liverpool already have six attackers at the club, but Chiesa has struggled to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League, while Darwin Nunez’s numbers simply haven’t been good enough.

The Swede, on the other hand, has quickly become one of the most sought-after players in world football and scored a fantastic goal against Liverpool as the two sides played out a 2-2 draw last month.

Newcastle reportedly value Isak at around £150m, meaning the Reds would have to part with a Premier League-record fee to snap him up.

Hutchison feels the Reds should offload the likes of Ben Doak, Nunez and Harvey Elliott as he was thinking out loud on social media.

While the figures in question are just from the top of his head, the former Liverpool man seemed to suggest the Reds should offload players before making a move for Isak.

He wrote on X: “Chatting to my mate last night (Liverpool fan) would you sell: Darwin 40mill ish, Doak 20 mill ish and Elliot 20mill ish.

“A couple of young boys out on loan 40 mill ish and buy A Isak for 120 Mill ish. I think he would be perfect for Liverpool.”

Isak’s stats this season

Isak already has notched up 15 goals and four assists across all competitions this season and was named Premier League Player of the Month ahead of Salah in December, which goes to show just how good he’s been in recent weeks.

A player of his quality would undoubtedly take Liverpool’s attack to another level, but Newcastle’s asking price of £150m is an outrageous fee despite his quality.

Stranger things have happened in football, but we can’t see the Reds breaking the bank for Isak at this point in time. If they agree to negotiate a fee, however, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see Liverpool make a move for him.
