The English official was filmed disparaging Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp and has since been relieved of his refereeing duties until further notice.

In what can only be described in terms like "deeply hilarious" and "least shocking thing I've seen today", a video of David Coote, Premier League referee, going on an unfiltered 74-second diatribe about his dislike of Liverpool as a club and Jürgen Klopp as a human being was released onto the internet on Monday afternoon.

The video, featuring Coote, his suspiciously colossal pupils and clenched jaw, and a second man serving as confidant and camera operator for his late night rant, was released on Twitter yesterday and immediately exploded into every corner of football discourse on the dying app, leading to fans collating lists — some more accurate than others — of erroneous decisions made in Liverpool matches starring Coote as referee or VAR operator.

The main man himself first claimed the footage was doctored, then reversed course 20 minutes later, admitting it was real but that he could not remember making it. Interestingly, the 42-year old did not distance himself from the statements themselves, only that he had no memory of uttering them on camera.

Hands tied by the seeming finality of the evidence, PGMOL saw no other option than to suspend Coote with immediate effect, and will make no further comment until the conclusion of their own investigation in the matter, which will undoubtedly not be a matey, back-slappy affair that ends with a smack on the wrist and Everton docked 10 points somehow.
