Liverpool kick off their UEFA Champions League campaign this week in one of the competition’s great match-ups against Italian giants AC Milan.

The two titans of European football have met for some truly incredible ties in the Champions League, namely the 2005 final where Liverpool came from 3-0 down to beat Milan on penalties in the Miracle of Istanbul.

Whilst Milan got their revenge on the Reds two years later in the Champions League final in Athens, the two sides will be looking at their next encounter with great excitement, with Christian Pulisic excited to face Liverpool.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Fikayo Tomori is set to return to Milan’s starting XI having been rested this weekend in the Rossoneri’s Serie A win against Venezia, which the Italian giants won 4-0.

Tomori was linked with Liverpool last year with the former Chelsea defender establishing himself as one of the best centre-backs in Europe after making the move to Milan, with the England international hailed as ‘fantastic’ by Total Football Analysis.

With Liverpool heading to the San Siro off the back of a historic defeat against Nottingham Forest, Milan having one of their best players in Tomori fully fit for Tuesday’s tie is a huge boost for the Rossoneri.

And with the Champions League format bigger than it has ever been this season, Liverpool will want to get off to a good start against Milan, who could now be a big test for the Anfield side tomorrow night.

Liverpool have to be at their best vs Milan in the Champions League

Off the back of a shock defeat against Forest, Liverpool know they have to bounce back with a flourish in the Champions League tomorrow night against one of their most famous European rivals in Milan.

And although the Italian giants will have their star defender in Tomori back in the starting XI, Liverpool know they have the quality to get a positive result against Milan at the San Siro.

With the demons of Saturday in need of banishing, Liverpool will want to do all they can to get back on track under Arne Slot, who will want to prove his credentials after a stunning loss on Saturday.
