Report: Barcelona and Daniel Levy to rival Liverpool for 'strong' European talent
Today at 06:00 AM
The January transfer window is just under six weeks away from opening, and all signs suggest that Liverpool will be active in the market.
Marcus Thuram has emerged as a target for Liverpool as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, with Omar Marmoush also linked with a move to Anfield as a successor for the Reds’ no. 11 heading into 2025.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold also primed to leave Liverpool at the end of this season, signing a new right-back will be top of Arne Slot’s list of transfer priorities for next year, with the Merseyside giants linked with a number of options already.
And one such Liverpool target is now attracting some interest from big teams in FC Barcelona and Tottenham.
Liverpool target Devyne Rensch wanted by Barcelona and Tottenham
According to Sport, Barcelona and Tottenham have both joined the race to sign Ajax defender Devyne Rensch, with the report stating that Liverpool are also keen on the 21-year-old Netherlands international.
Capable of playing everywhere across the back-four, Rensch has emerged as the latest in a long line of exciting Ajax academy graduates having broken into the senior team last season, with the youngster now a full senior member for the Dutch national team.
Noted by One Football as a ‘strong’ defender, Liverpool have been linked with Rensch in recent weeks, with interest in right-backs starting to heat up as the Reds prepare to replace one of their key players in Alexander-Arnold.
And with Barcelona and Tottenham interested in Rensch, Liverpool could face quite the battle in trying to sign the Ajax youngster, who seemingly has his pick of teams to sign for heading into 2025 after another impressive year with the Dutch giants.
Liverpool could already have to pivot away from Rensch
With Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong another target for Liverpool heading into January, the Reds are not short of right-back options, even with the task of replacing Alexander-Arnold a difficult one for Slot.
Yet with Barcelona and Tottenham interested in signing Rensch, Liverpool could have to consider a pivot away from the Ajax defender with competition for the youngster now as strong as it is heading into the new year.
Indeed, with Rensch also one of the most inexperienced targets on Liverpool’s radar, the Anfield side won’t feel too upset if they end up missing out on the 21-year-old, who could be more-suited to a club in transition like Barcelona or Tottenham.
