Report: Liverpool circling 'unplayable' attacker after being told he could leave for £60m this month
Today at 07:00 AM
With less than half of the January transfer window to go, Liverpool remain yet to make a signing.
The Reds appear to be happy with the squad they have for the remainder of the season, with nothing imminent looking likely to happy.
Nevertheless, Liverpool tend to react to opportunities in the market, meaning a late-ish addition can never fully be ruled out.
For the moment, most supporters would perhaps like the focus to be on the Liverpool defence if Richard Hughes and Arne Slot do decide to move on a new signing.
However, Liverpool showed interest in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia earlier in the window and clearly there’s an appetite to add another forward.
Another to have been linked is Brentford’s in-form winger Bryan Mbeumo. And with the Bees having now laid out their demands for Mbeumo, Liverpool are reportedly well in the mix to sign him.
Liverpool in the mix for £60m Bryan Mbeumo
If Liverpool do not sell another forward, then it does not make a great deal of sense to add another this month.
Having said that, Darwin Nunez’s future is in grave doubt, while Mohamed Salah could still leave for nothing at the end of the season.
As a result, Liverpool should be pro-active in bringing in another option if the right opportunity to do so arises this month.
And according to Give Me Sport, Mbeumo is one of the players Liverpool are definitely interested in.

They claim that the Reds are ‘circling’ the 25-year-old having been impressed by his performances this season. However, Brentford are reportedly standing firm on a £60m valuation of Mbuemo, which is said to be problematic for any interested club.
Another thing claimed to be blocking Liverpool from making a January move is that they are ‘prioritising’ getting Salah to sign a new contract. Consequently, it’s claimed that Arsenal are the most likely team to test Brentford’s resolve in the January window.
Mbeumo could be an option in the summer
Liverpool clearly like Mbeumo and it’s easy to see why. Having hit 13 Premier League goals this season, Mbeumo is a man in rich form.
Thomas Frank labelled Mbeumo as being ‘unplayable‘ after Brentford’s win over Newcastle in December and the Cameroonian looks ready for the next step.
Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
2021/22 | 35 | 4 | 7 |
2022/23 | 38 | 9 | 8 |
2023/24 | 25 | 9 | 6 |
2024/25 | 21 | 13 | 4 |
Obviously, Liverpool would still prefer to see Salah extend his stay with the club.
But as long as Arsenal do not push ahead with a move for Mbeumo this month, he could definitely be one to look at if the Egyptian can not agree terms with the Reds.
