Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Consider Move to Sign Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

The 23-year-old Georgian is widely considered to be one of the best wingers in football and could be quite the target of opportunity for Liverpool in January.
The consensus heading into the January transfer window from those with reliable ties to Liverpool Football Club was that the fans shouldn't expect signings and that the club wasn't actively looking to strengthen any one position but that should the right target become available they would move.
Today, we get a first name fitting that bill, and it's a big one. Napoli and Georgia star left winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is said to be in Liverpool's sights, with The Athletic's David Ornstein suggesting there's a chance he leaves the Serie A club this month and that as long-time admirers the Reds would hold interest.
It is perhaps a tenuous linking, but a tenuous linking from a source that at least suggests genuine interest in signing Kvaratskhelia exists. Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are the other clubs floated as potential January destinations—though that Kvaratskhelia could plausibly be available will surprise many.
That's because the player has two years on his contract beyond the current season and Napoli currently are top of the table in Italy with a three point edge—albeit having played a game more—on nearest chasers Atalanta. One might also wonder if Liverpool need yet another left wing star.
He has, though, at times played as a false nine or second striker, so perhaps the Reds could find creative ways to fit him into the attack. While he missed Napoli's most recent game due to muscle fatigue, Kvaratskhelia has a generally good injury record. He has five goals and three assists from 19 games this season.
