Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have been three of Liverpool’s most important players this season, with the trio set to leave the club in the summer.

The three Anfield superstars all have their contracts coming to an end later this year, with Liverpool yet to renew Alexander-Arnold, Salah or Van Dijk’s contracts in an event that has left many supporters furious with the club’s owners.

With Real Madrid working to sign Alexander-Arnold and PSG making Salah a top target for this summer, there’s a growing sense of unease that three Liverpool stars could actually leave Merseyside with time slowly running out for the club to hand the trio new contracts.

Yet Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has a new theory on what’s actually going on behind the scenes.

Fowler claims Liverpool have signed two players to new contracts secretly

Speaking to Amazon Prime, the former Anfield striker made the bold theory that Liverpool have secretly signed two of Alexander-Arnold, Salah or Van Dijk to new contracts, with the news not being made public to help protects the player who hasn’t penned fresh terms.

Fowler said: “It’s no inside information, but I do have a little theory, and I don’t know if this is far from the truth, but I think two of them have signed already for some reason, and one hasn’t, due to the simple fact that the club can’t come out and say: ‘You have signed because it makes the other one look worse.’

“There’s a possibility that may have happened, because if two of them sign and they come out and say: ‘Oh we’ve signed,’ it puts so much pressure on the other one.”

Indeed, given the current climate of Liverpool’s contract situations, fans and pundits could make a logical guess at which two players might have signed new deals in secret for the Reds, with the other seemingly set for a dramatic exit later this year.

Who could Liverpool sign to replace Alexander-Arnold?

If Liverpool supporters were to take a punt at what were to happen regarding the ongoing contract situations, many would predict Salah and Van Dijk to stay whilst Alexander-Arnold makes the fantasy move to Madrid.

Indeed, few can fault the fullback from joining arguably the biggest club in all of sports at the peak of his powers, yet Alexander-Arnold’s potential departure does leave some big problems for Arne Slot’s side in the right-back position.

Liverpool have been linked with Jeremie Frimpong as a potential replacement whilst Amar Dedic has been recommended to the Reds as a player who could succeed Alexander-Arnold, as well as help out in the left-back position.
