Liverpool kick off their UEFA Champions League campaign this Tuesday with a mouthwatering tie against European giants AC Milan.

The two sides have a storied history facing off against each other in the Champions League having contested two finals this century, with the Miracle of Istanbul one of the most famous chapters in Liverpool’s mythos.

With the Reds coming into tomorrow’s tie off the back of a historic defeat against Nottingham Forest, though, Liverpool know that they will need to be at their best if they’re to come away from the San Siro with all three points.

And Milan manager Paulo Fonseca has now shared what’s impressed him about Liverpool since Arne Slot’s appointment.

Liverpool ‘one of the strongest teams in Europe’ under Slot

Speaking to the press ahead of tomorrow night’s clash, the Portuguese manager was full of praise for Slot and the work the former Feyenoord coach has already done at Liverpool since being appointed this summer.

Although Saturday’s result was disappointing, Slot’s reaction to Liverpool’s loss showed a manager who is willing to learn from mistakes and push on from defeats, and Fonseca seems to be a fan of the Dutchman.

Fonseca said when asked about Slot and Liverpool: "They are a great team, they are one of the strongest teams in Europe at the moment. They have a very strong positional game and individuals that we all know. We will have to be a defensively perfect team to win.

“In the Champions League against this type of team, we cannot make mistakes. If we make one mistake they'll score. We will have to be a complete team in defence to then be able to attack with stability. At the moment, for me, they are one of the strongest teams in Europe."

Slot will be desperate to win tomorrow night vs AC Milan

After Saturday’s disappointment against Forest, Slot will be intent on making a comeback with Liverpool against Milan, with a win in the opening game of the revamped Champions League the perfect response for the Dutchman.

The Reds are one of the favourites for this season’s competition and Slot’s record with winning silverware in recent years should give Liverpool fans confidence that the Champions League can be won this year.

And a win against Milan will be the perfect way to kick off the journey, with Liverpool aware that a win against a big team could be huge for upcoming games in Europe and in the Premier League.
