'We didn't': Ancelotti drops new hint on Real Madrid transfer plans following first Alexander-Arnold approach

Speculation surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool future has dominated the back pages in recent months.
The 26-year-old’s current deal runs out at the end of the season and his future very much hangs in the balance currently as the Reds have thus far been unable to tie him down to a new contract.
Real Madrid have already had an opening bid turned down for Alexander-Arnold, although they continue to pursue his signing on a free transfer.
And now, Carlo Ancelotti has made a claim on Real Madrid’s plans for the January transfer window which could have a big impact on the Liverpool vice-captain’s future.

The La Liga giants are on the lookout for a right-back as Dani Carvajal is currently out with an ACL injury, with the Spanish international also running on his last legs as he’s currently 33.
Alexander-Arnold’s future remains uncertain, but with Liverpool involved in a Premier League title race, they are unlikely to part with him midway through the season.
Earlier this month, Ancelotti left the door open for a move for Alexander-Arnold after Real Madrid’s first bid was rejected.
And now, with just over two weeks left for the window to slam shut, the experienced manager has appeared to suggest that they are still in the market to add to their squad this month.
"We didn't change our mind,” said Ancelotti at a press conference when asked about potential incomings. (quotes via Fabrizio Romano).
"We talk about these things internally as Real Madrid will always be competitive. I don't share in public the topics we discuss internally.”
What next for Alexander-Arnold?
Liverpool have offered Alexander-Arnold a new contract as they also aim to tie down Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah for the long haul.
However, Real Madrid are waiting patiently on the wings and will look to sign him on a free transfer if they don’t manage to sign him in January.
A second Real Madrid bid for Alexander-Arnold can’t be ruled out, but Liverpool have no intention of selling one of their prized assets midway through the season as it would jeopardize their title pursuit.
The Reds are running out of time to tie down the 26-year-old to a new contract and need to reach an agreement soon to avoid the saga from dragging onto the business end of the campaign.
