However, one moment in recent years that put a smile on Man Utd fans' faces was the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo from the academy. The English midfielder caught the eye and in no time, he became a mainstay in the first-team.
Since then, Mainoo has had so many memorable moments in his short but sweet Man Utd career including scoring for his team against Man City in the FA Cup final last year to hand his team an unlikely trophy.
However, Mainoo's future at the club is now under some doubt, as per The Daily Mail, with the report revealing that the £65million-rated youngster is demanding enormous wages of around £200,000 a week to sign a new deal with the club.
This comes at a time when Man Utd are trying to reduce their wage bill and Mainoo's demands might not go down well with the club.
In fact, this is one of the reasons he is being linked with a move away from Old Trafford with Chelsea said to be leading to secure his services.
As good as Mainoo has been for the club and as much as he is adored by the fans, it must be said that no player is bigger than the actual institution and Man Utd should not be going over and beyond to secure their Golden Boy to a new contract.
It remains to be seen if the club are able to convince Mainoo to lower his demands or if a sale actually becomes a concrete possibility. In your view should Man Utd agree £200,000 a week deal with Mainoo or sell him.
