Manchester United will look to bounce back from their 3-0 Premier League defeat to Bournemouth when they visit Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day.

The humbling defeat to Bournemouth at home on Sunday made it back-to-back defeats and continued the Red Devils' mixed start under Ruben Amorim. The result left them 13th in the table.

Ruben Amorim and Co. have little time to lick their wounds as they prepare to face Wolves, who are fresh off an important 3-0 win over newly promoted Leicester City in new manager Vitor Pereira's first game in charge since replacing Gary O'Neil.

Manchester United will hope to welcome back Matthijs de Ligt, who has missed the last two fixtures with a bout of illness.

Mason Mount has suffered a fresh blow as he may not be back until March. Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof are also sidelined with injuries, while Marcus Rashford has been left out of the squad in the last few games by Ruben Amorim after the forward said in an interview he was “ready for a new challenge”

Goalkeeper

Andre Onana will be desperate to shut the shop as quickly as possible at Molineux after conceding three goals to Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

Defence

Should Matthijs de Ligt recover from his illness and return on Thursday, he could slot in alongside Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez in the back three. Given the Red Devils have been defensively leaky, especially conceding goals almost in every game from set plays, the centre-backs must take ownership and offer more protection to Onana.

Midfield

Casemiro has not played a minute in the last couple of games, so he will be fresh to face Wolves. The Brazilian could be deployed alongside Kobbie Mainoo in the middle, with the duo being tasked with controlling the flow of the game.

Noussair Mazraoui, who conceded a penalty in the defeat to Bournemouth, should return to his favoured wing-back role in the Manchester United lineup. Diogo Dalot is likely to operate from the opposite flank. They will be crucial in stretching Wolves and delivering crosses in the box for the forwards to attack.

Attack

Despite not being in the best of forms, Bruno Fernandes is the Manchester United skipper and a key cog in the Manchester United lineup. He will take an advanced role off the right, with Alejandro Garnacho hoping to cause problems for the Wolves defence with his pace and unpredictability on the left.

Joshua Zirkzee is in danger of dropping out of the team following a poor display against Bournemouth. Rasmus Hojlund is likely to replace Zirkzee up top in the Manchester United lineup, with Amad Diallo hoping to influence the game off the bench. Antony, Christian Eriksen, and Manuel Ugarte could also get chances in the second half.
