From 'not good enough' to Rangers main man as Clement criticism clicks for Tannadice hero

Football has a strange way of turning full circle at times with Rangers finally getting to grips with an away league game after going behind.

Philippe Clement still hasn't convinced everyone that he is the right choice for manager, but results like the one at Tannadice will certainly help – if the second half display is seen more than the first.

Front and centre of the comeback was Mohamed Diomande who, after being clattered in the early stages, took matters into his own hands for Rangers.

Mohamed Diomande learns from Rangers axe

It's a far cry from when Rangers played Dundee Utd at Ibrox in November when two points were dropped after a lacklustre display.

Speaking after the game, Clement clearly wasn’t happy:

"We had some players who performed normal," Clement told Sky Sports. "But we had some players who were not good enough today," the Rangers boss said of Diomande and Cyriel Dessers, who were both hooked at half-time.

"Who were not available enough today, who were not brave enough today.

"That's why I made also some changes in half-time with players who had a good impact.

"We need to show much more like what we showed in the second so I'm going to be harsh on that."

Diomande eases fears of wasted transfer fee

Whether it was Clement, another member of his coaching staff or even a member of the playing squad, someone has clearly had a word with Diomande.

His form since being hooked at half-time has been much improved alongside Nicolas Raskin in the engine room.

The 22-year old has looked after the ball better, taken more responsibility and shown a real determination to get Rangers on the front foot.

Diomande's goal against Dundee Utd is the perfect example of what he is now doing in that he could have passed the buck, instead, he drove forward with the ball and got his shot away on his weaker foot.

The celebration showed that he gets it now too.

Even when he got sent off, he was doing the sort of thing that Rangers players haven't done against opponents for years, he was annoying them – it was just a shame that Nick Walsh lost control of his senses.
