Rangers desperately need reinforcements at centre-half as their problems worsen.

As if wasn’t bad enough to have John Souttar and Leon Balogun out, with Neraysho Kasanwirjo already back at Feyenoord after his season-ending injury, Dujon Sterling came off injured against Hibs.

The Englishman is already a full-back playing out of position and was replaced by Leon King at Easter Road.

Phillipe Clement today gave an update on the defensive injury crisis that has rocked Rangers.

He admitted Souttar will be out longer term and that he wasn’t sure about Sterling and Balogun.

It is expected Gers will target centre halves in this month’s transfer window but the Belgian rather ominously said it will be new CEO Patrick Stewart who addresses fans on January plans.

Rangers linked with Bamo Meité

Rangers were linked with Marseille defender Bamo Meité last summer even though he had only just completed a permanent transfer from Lorient after a loan.

But Gers reportedly made enquiries along with two other clubs.

And it would seem their interest in the 23-year-old remains but they could face competition from Montpellier who would like to keep him in France.

Telefoot journalist Saber Desfarges has suggested Meite has a release clause in his OM contract and that Rangers are ready to trigger it.

He said: “OM could recruit a new central defender and a full-back in the event of a departure.
Mbemba, Brassier and Bamo Meité, among others, have a release voucher.

“The latter interests Glasgow Rangers and Montpellier who want a dry loan. OM wants liquidity.”

Rangers-linked Meite wants Marseille exit

Rangers could be helped in their pursuit by the face Meite reportedly wants to leave Marseille this month.

Foot Mercato reported recently that Roberto de Zerbi doesn’t fancy the player and that he himself would like to move on.

The report adds however that Marseille would prefer an initial loan with a mandatory purchase option, similar to the deal that brought Oscar Cortes from Lens.
