Only 24 hours ago did it look like Kenny McLean's proposed switch to Rangers had broken down.

Reports spread quickly claiming that Rangers and McLean were some way apart in terms of the length of contract on the table at Ibrox.

For some, this was a major blow.

Rangers have reportedly missed out on a series of high profile targets already this window with Philippe Clement claiming experience was top of the bill after a number of young signings.

At 32-years-old, Norwich City star Kenny McLean certainly ticks a lot of those boxes.

But before you go and start writing this transfer off, it appears that things are not quite as they appear for the time being.

McLean reports 'not completely true'

As news of the Kenny McLean to Rangers deal falling apart broke, it was in stark contrast to reports in the days previously.

With the expectations around a potential transfer rising, the suggestion that Rangers couldn't strike a deal with McLean came as a surprise to supporters.

But now one leading Rangers fan media outlet is claiming that for the time being, the deal is certainly not off the table.

Speaking as part of their Daily Update for 04/07/24, Heart & Hand were discussing the situation with host David Edgar tentatively suggesting that a transfer is still a possibility.

"As we mentioned yesterday there were reports that Rangers' move for Kenny McLean had broken down," said David Edgar.

"My understanding is that's not completely true. Now please don't think I'm saying 'he's definitely arriving', because I'm not.

"But certainly the talks are ongoing so it's a possibility that it still could happen.

"As I say please don't go 100% 'he's definitely coming' because all I'm saying at the moment is he's not 100% definitely not coming."

Rangers on experienced transfer hunt

The latest Kenny McLean claims come after the player's agent reacted to reports of the deal falling apart on social media.

Alan Houldsworth saw the funny side as he reacted to the previous claims on social media platform X with a string of laughing face emojis.

It all suggests that a deal to bring the ex-Aberdeen midfielder to the club isn't quite off the table just yet but there still appears work to be done to get any transfer across the line.

If Rangers do move for McLean, the club would go some way to filling the void left by the departures of influential midfield duo John Lundstram and Ryan Jack at the end of their contracts.
