Modern day football is 24/7 and the news cycle is instant, Rangers can be linked with a player in the papers, but by the time the headlines are printed, it could already be out of date.

Social media, whether we like it or not, is the future of reporting, it is also the place where players across the world can come unstuck if they say or do the wrong thing at the wrong moment.

Transfer speculation in particular can see fans lose their heads when, in reality, the truth is rarely known and Chinese whispers rule the day, Rangers in particular is a constant subject for story tellers.

Players, agents and managers all know what they are doing too and a liked post or a follow – or unfollow – of specific accounts can get tongues wagging.

There are times though, as in the case of Todd Cantwell and James Tavernier recently when they probably should have saved their content for another day and read the room slightly better.

It's amazing how perception can skew reality though.

Abdallah Sima sends Rangers transfer teaser with Instagram post

Abdallah Sima was equally as guilty for Rangers not winning the league last season and for not winning any Old Firm derbies and yet he appears to be escaping from criticism after his latest Instagram compilation.

Why?

Because he has hinted at a return to Ibrox.

It's not his first Rangers post recently either with a not-so-subtle dig at Ridvan Yilmaz too, all in good humour, of course.

Reflecting on season 2023/24, Sima says it is one that he will "never forget" and that he will be back "soon".

Only one stumbling block if Rangers want to sign Sima

The Senegal international has never shied away from the fact that he wants to stay in Glasgow and extend his season long loan deal, saying towards the end of the season:

"It's not up to me.

"I always say I feel at home here and I'm happy to be here. I've always loved to give everything for this shirt.

"As I say, this place feels like home and I feel everyone wants to stay in a place that feels like home, so we will see in the next few weeks.

"I think I can be proud of my season and happy with what I've contributed. I wanted to do more but of course I had a bad moment with my injury, which ruled me out for a long time. But I'm always looking forward and I'm not looking back.

"I really wanted to win the cup for the club, for my team-mates and I think we deserved to do that, to be honest. But it wasn't enough and now we need to look forward to next season."

Philippe Clement too said that only a discussion between Rangers and Brighton was all that was stopping any prospective permanent transfer:

"That is about us, him and Brighton. We were really happy with what he showed.

"We see him as somebody with potential to grow, he is very happy in this building.

"There is a club that is his owner so you need to find an agreement so we will see what is going to happen there.”

Brighton have since changed managers, however, they have also just spent over £30m on a new winger, Sima won't be returning to the south coast higher up the pecking order and he has spent every season since joining the Premier League outift on loan.

With a year left of his contract, negotiations with David Weir should be amicable and if a cut-price deal can be arranged then Nols Koppen would be very brave to turn it down.

Deals for Yusuf Kabadayi and Adama Traore were all but confirmed according to the mainstream media, could one simple social media post from Sima be the explanation as to where they weren't?
