Stade Rennais’ Albert Gronbaek is set to complete a move to Southampton in the winter market, according to multiple reports.
The attacking midfielder scored two goals and registered an assist from 18 games for the Ligue 1 side this season.
L’Equipe explain the 23-year-old has been left out the group at the French club and is now close to Southampton.
It’s claimed the Denmark international is in the ‘process of signing’ for Ivan Juric’s side in this window. The report adds all parties have reached an agreement in principle for his move, but the details of the transfer aren’t mentioned.
Stade Rennais’ leaders and their manager Jorge Sampaoli are waiting for the player’s exit.
French journalist Marc Mechenoua took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to provide more on Gronbaek’s impending move to Southampton.
He claims the Saints will sign the Dane on a loan deal with an option to buy set at €15m. On Sunday evening. the player arrived in England and will carry out medical tests with Southampton on Monday morning.
Another journalist Sacha Tavolieri also claims Gronbaek has been in Southampton since yesterday and will undergo medical today. He also states the Saints will have an option to make his stay permanent for €15m.
