'Play-off candidates' – Stoke City vs Millwall prediction: The72
Yesterday at 03:25 AM
Stoke City host in-form Millwall on Saturday afternoon as Narcis Pelach continues to turn his side’s season around.
Stoke City have won their last two games and now find themselves in 14th place in the Championship table. Last time out they took three points from Blackburn Rovers away from home.
It marked an impressive result despite Rovers’ poor form, as the Lancashire outfit had only lost once at home this campaign before the game.
Narcis Pelach‘s Potters have lost just one of their last five games, that coming away to 2nd place Sheffield United.
Millwall however, are in excellent form right now. Neil Harris’ side have won their last four games and all four have finished 1-0.
The Lions find themselves in the play-off places going into the game and unbeaten in six. Their last two wins have come against promotion hopefuls Leeds United and Burnley, highlighting the brilliant work Harris has done so far this season.
Another win on Saturday could see them move within three points of the automatic promotion spots should results go their way.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
Charlie Hodgson
“Millwall look like one of the surprise packages of the season so far. I do not think many had them down as potential play-off candidates coming into the campaign. Stoke City away, however, is not an easy game for them to continue their fine form.
“The Potters are just kick-starting their campaign themselves and will want to build on the two wins they have picked up this week. Tom Cannon has two in two from the spot and he will be on the hunt for more on Saturday.
“For me, this has a draw written all over it, both teams are defensively sound and are not exactly free-scoring despite their recent run of wins.
Prediction: Stoke City 1-1 Millwall
James Ray
“Millwall have really started to put things together in recent weeks. The signs were there even when results weren’t, but they’ve found a great rhythm and will be targeting yet another win here.
“Stoke City are gathering steam of their own though, and I think we could see the two cancel each other out.
“The Potters are tightening things up and four games unbeaten is no mean feat, while Millwall haven’t been great on the road. That could even swing things in the hosts’ favour, but I’ll say this ends level.”
Prediction: Stoke City 1-1 Millwall
