Confident remains that Sunderland will sign Matija Frigan this month, but the nature of the bid continues to vary.

Gol Dnevnik provide the latest on the matter today, stating that the young Croatian hopeful will be moving to Sunderland this month.

They report that Sunderland are 'seriously interested' in Frigan. Negotiations are ongoing over the transfer. That is likely to be a loan until the end of the season including a buy-out clause.

Gol's information is that Sunderland are offering €6-7m in compensation plus bonuses. Westerlo paid €5.5m to get him from Rijeka in 2023 so it would be a small profit for them.

We would point out, though, that this varies wildly from what has been stated in Belgium. In fact, the media there keeps reporting that the fee would be €15m.

That's a very big difference, even if you think the real price is somewhere in the middle so take any figures with a pinch of salt.

Gol do add that Regis Le Bris 'obviously sees the potential' of Frigan. They describe the Sunderland coach as having 'the voice of an expert' and someone who doesn't shy away from giving youngsters their chance. It is the latter point which has him interested in Frigan.

There's also praise for Sunderland, who they label a 'cult club in England for various reasons. In fact, they are very complimentary about Sunderland as a whole.

They're also confident that Sunderland will get their man at some point, but for what price remains to be seen.
