Lucas Bergvall stole the headlines as Tottenham Hotspur beat Liverpool in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final.
The Lilywhites hosted a Liverpool side in rampant form this season, with just one defeat to their name in any competition under Arne Slot prior to Wednesday evening.
And the Reds dominated most of the match, attempting 14 shots to Tottenham's seven, leading 7-4 for shots on target, 1.13-0.89 for xG and 60-40% for possession.
However, an inspired performance from Tottenham's defenders and debutant goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky provided the platform for some late heroics — not to mention controversy.
Liverpool's players and staff were livid when the referee didn't show a second yellow card to Spurs midfielder Bergvall for a late challenge on Kostas Tsimikas.
Indeed, it was a poor tackle well worthy of a booking, though the Swedish teenager was unfortunate to be shown his first yellow in the 68th minute and will probably feel the two incidents balanced themselves out.
Incredibly, just moments later, Bergvall was picked out in the box by Dominic Solanke before showing ultimate composure to sweep home his first-ever Spurs goal to deliver an 85th-minute winner.
Alasdair Gold heaps praise on Lucas Bergvall
Late tackle on Tsimikas aside, Bergvall's goal capped off an excellent performance against arguably the best team on the planet right now.
The 18-year-old misplaced just four of his 26 passes on the night and created three chances — including two big chances — while having four touches in the opposition box.
Out of possession, Bergvall made three tackles, three recoveries and two clearances.
Bergvall's performance caught the eye of Spurs expert Alasdair Gold, who rated his performance at 9/10.
"A busy display and tackled Alisson early in the second half to set up Porro for a chance," Gold wrote for Football.London.
"Picked up an unfortunate first yellow card and should have got a second but was fortunate play was waved on. He took full advantage by slotting home from Solanke's pass not long after. Got a full game (fortunately) in his legs and he's adapting so quickly."
Meanwhile, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou said: "Lucas was brilliant… Lucas is just growing all the time. He's got that ability as a footballer to create space for himself. He's got the quality, but he works awfully hard for the team as well."
