Tottenham Hotspur have always been on the lookout for promising young talent, and former Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe was once on their radar.

The ex-England youth international recently disclosed that Spurs made a bid for him before his eventual transfer to Bournemouth.

Ibe frustrated over missed Tottenham opportunity

Looking back on his career, Ibe revealed that before his £15 million move to Bournemouth in 2016, Tottenham had submitted a £9 million offer for him.

At the time, Mauricio Pochettino had transformed Spurs into one of the Premier League's top sides, and Ibe believes joining them could have changed his career path for the better.

Speaking on Filthy Fellas, Ibe said:

"The thing is like, even Spurs came in for me, which I found out for like nine million. I was vexed. Because obviously, you know it was like a Premier League contender. At the time, it was that Poch team."

Ibe started his professional career at Wycombe Wanderers before securing a move to Liverpool at just 16. He quickly made an impression in the Reds' youth setup and broke into the first team in 2013. Loan spells at Birmingham City and Derby County gave him valuable experience, where he showcased his attacking flair.

During his time at Liverpool, Ibe demonstrated flashes of his potential, scoring in both the Europa League and League Cup. He was seen as one of the next big talents emerging from the Liverpool academy.

However, he struggled to maintain consistency, and failed to live up to his expectations, which ultimately led to his permanent move to Bournemouth in 2016.

His spell at the south-coast club was a mixed experience. Although he arrived as Bournemouth's record signing, he found it difficult to meet expectations.

While he had occasional flashes of quality, he struggled to cement a regular place in their starting lineup. After leaving Bournemouth, he had short spells at Derby County, Turkish side Adanaspor, and lower-tier English clubs.

Had Ibe joined Tottenham, he might have flourished under Pochettino, who was renowned for developing young talent. Players like Dele Alli and Harry Kane thrived under the Argentine's guidance, and Ibe could have had a similar trajectory.

While his career didn't unfold as expected, Ibe's revelation about Tottenham's interest provides an intriguing "what if" scenario in his football journey.
