"Will depend" – Tottenham insider makes interesting Heung-min Son future claim

Heung-min Son's long-term future at Tottenham Hotspur remains up in the air, despite the South Korean forward signing a one-year contract extension earlier this month.
While the club's announcement of Son's contract extension brought temporary relief to Spurs fans, his future beyond the summer of 2026—when his new deal expires—remains unclear.
With the 32-year-old's current form falling short of his usual high standards, the club is reportedly hesitant to offer him another long-term deal.
This season, Son has managed just six goals in 18 Premier League appearances, a noticeable decline compared to his prolific form in previous campaigns.
Club insider John Wenham believes Son's form will be the decisive factor in determining whether he earns a new long-term contract.
Speaking to Tottenham News, he said:
"Son's future at the club will depend on his form."
"If he can get back to his best, then obviously they would offer him a new contract. However, he is getting older now, and his existing terms see him earn £200,000 per week. Therefore, that is a big deal for someone his age."
"As a result, if his form continues as it is, I expect this to be his last contract with Spurs. I just haven't seen enough from him this season to suggest he will turn his form around and earn a new contract."
Since joining Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, Son has established himself as one of the club's all-time greats. With 170 goals and 91 assists in 434 appearances across all competitions, his contributions have been instrumental in Tottenham's success over the past eight years.
Son's achievements include winning the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season and earning widespread admiration for his versatility, work ethic, and ability to produce match-winning moments.
At 32, Son faces the challenge of proving he can maintain his high level of performance as he enters the latter stages of his career. With his current form under scrutiny, the next few months could play a crucial role in determining his future at Tottenham.
For now, the focus will be on whether Son can rediscover his best form and convince the club to keep him beyond his current deal. However, if his performances don't improve, this contract extension may well be his last with Spurs.
