Manchester United could receive a late surprise in the transfer window – at the expense of Arsenal.

Ruben Amorim has been pushing for a new left wing-back throughout January, having gone without a natural option on that side due to the fitness issues of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Manchester United are close to signing Patrick Dorgu from Lecce to fill that gap in the squad, although a late development over in Germany could now see Mathys Tel join the Denmark international at Old Trafford.

TBR Football understand Tel has fallen out with Vincent Kompany and wants to leave Bayern Munich – with intermediaries offering the France U21 international to Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester United.

Arsenal are preparing a bid for Tel – having sat up and taken notice of the offer – although Paul O’Keefe has now claimed that the Bayern Munich No.39 wants to join the Red Devils.

Mathys Tel wants Manchester United move

The reliable insider has now taken to X (previously known as Twitter) to reveal the 19-year-old wants to join Amorim at Old Trafford, despite interest from Arsenal and also Tottenham.

O’Keefe wrote: “The boy wants Man Utd. Let’s see how Bayern play that.”

The Daily Mail believe Bayern Munich want at least £40m for Tel – who they spent £25m to sign from Rennes when he was just 17.

So far this season, the 19-year-old has failed to score in 13 appearances, with just one assist to show for his efforts, although Kompany has only handed the Frenchman two starts across all competitions.

What Harry Kane and Owen Hargreaves have said about Mathys Tel

Forget the teenager’s lack of goals this season – he is an immense talent just waiting to blossom.

Harry Kane has lauded Tel in the past, saying: “Mathys is only 18 years old. He is an outstanding talent.”

The England international is well placed to comment on the Sarcelles-born wonderkid, as they are teammates at Bayern Munich.

Owen Hargreaves has also praised Tel – calling the youngster a “special player” back in September 2023.

Like Hargreaves did back in 2007, Tel could soon be swapping Bayern Munich for Manchester United if the Red Devils submit an attractive bid.
