Liverpool are flying high this season, sitting top of the Premier League and hoping to stay there during the October international break.

It has been a year of change at Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp departing the Reds hotseat at the end of last season and a number of boardroom changes also taking place.

Arne Slot has replaced Klopp in the Liverpool dugout and, for the most part, he has been superb for the Anfield outfit.

Barring the shock defeat to Nottingham Forest in September, Liverpool have been solid and currently sit at the Premier League summit, a point ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal.

Journalist Miguel Delaney has now shared what Premier League insiders reportedly think about how things have gone for Slot and Liverpool.

Liverpool have ‘benefited from a forgiving run of early fixtures’

Delaney's Reading the Game newsletter (4/10/2024, 12:30pm) acknowledges that Liverpool have enjoyed an ‘extremely smooth transition’ from Klopp to Slot so far.

However, ‘that is also why some rival clubs are a bit more cautious about expecting too much from Liverpool as yet, mind.’

According to Delaney, ‘there is a belief in the Premier League that they Slot has benefited from a forgiving run of early fixtures, with that complemented by a lack of injuries.

‘Some were also quick to point out how easily Bologna got at them in a hard-fought 2-0 home win at Anfield in midweek.’

Liverpool are next up against Crystal Palace in Saturday’s early kick-off, a game deemed an ‘awkward test’ for the Reds.

Tricky fixtures coming up for Liverpool

At the end of the day, it’s all about teams getting the better of who’s in front of them and, save for Forest, Liverpool have done just that.

It’s not like Man City have been completely flawless this season. They have drawn two games, including against title rivals Arsenal. The Gunners, in turn, drew against Brighton.

That said, Liverpool’s title credentials will be tested a bit more after the international break, as they face Chelsea, Arsenal and Aston Villa.
