With Michael Adu-Poku impressing with his performances out on loan at National League side Solihull Moors, we spoke to the young forward to see how he is getting on in the Midlands...

How are you finding life at Solihull Moors?

“It’s been good, and I feel like I fit in well. Gaining the experience has been good and my performances have been alright, so I’m enjoying it so far.”

How were you feeling when the loan was proposed to you?

“Excited. I knew about Solihull Moors after what they went through last season when they went all the way to the play-off final.

“They are a really good team and I’m just excited to be a part of that, and the National League is a good league, so I was just really excited.”

How important is reaching double figures for appearances for your progression?

“Yeah, really important you know. I feel like I need to improve my game and getting more matches on my CV is really important.”

You have registered two assists and a goal so far. Are you pleased with that?

“Yes. It could be more, but so far I’m pleased with that.”

The fans seem to be loving you at Solihull, what does that feel like?

“It feels good, so I can’t complain!”

Have you got any targets before the end of the season?

“Yeah - double digits on goals and double digits on assists. Goals and assists are a massive part of football nowadays, so being effective and being consistent with them gets your name out there.”

Is it a big step up from Under-21s football to men’s football?

“I’d say it's much more physical. It’s now playing for three points, playing for promotion, and could be playing to avoid relegation.

“I think it is massive and it’s something I’m happy to play for. I think men’s football has more edge and more competitiveness.”

Are you enjoying a more attacking side to your game?

“It’s good you know; I feel like I’ve always been a winger, so it is kind of my position, so I do know how to play there.

“The manager does like to give me the freedom to take on my man and just having that backing from him makes my game just that much easier.”

Your manager Andy Whing had a career in the EFL. What’s it like playing under him?

“Yeah top. He’s a really good coach and he’s helped me a lot, and advised me a lot with what to do.

“There’s times he’s given me advice that I’ve applied onto the pitch and my performances have been better, so he’s been really helpful to me.”
