Watford FC Women Development are celebrating a league and cup double after winning both the FA Women’s National League Reserve South East & Central Division and the Hertfordshire FA Women’s Trophy in some style.
Having wrapped up the league title with two games to go a few weeks back, winning all 10 games in the process, the team’s attention turned to attempting to complete the season with a 100 per cent win rate.
First up was a trip to AFC Sudbury Reserves, which saw a dominant 8-0 win for the Golden Girls – Kayra Karakus and Isabella Stumley scored braces, whilst Kaya Bamber, Bronte Young, Saoirse Hourigan and Chloe Kabo were also on the scoresheet.
With just one more win needed, the side headed to Maidenhead United Development and certainly showed no sign of nerves.
They even managed to outdo themselves to make it a perfect league campaign, securing their 12th win from 12 matches with a 9-0 victory.
Kabo grabbed a hat-trick and Jada Deane notched a double, whilst Charlotte Byde, Karakus, Young and Maia Lazaro all got a goal.
The side could not have asked for better – 12 games, 12 wins, and a +73 goal difference meaning they headed into the cup final with the perfect preparation.
It is safe to say that they brought their incredible goalscoring form into the final, beating Stevenage FC Women Development 7-0 to secure an extremely impressive league and cup double.
This means the Golden Girls won the cup competition without conceding a goal - walkovers in round one and two were followed up by a 5-0 away win at Berkhamsted FC Ladies in the quarter-final.
Coming up against Bury Rangers Women's First in the semi-final, Watford recorded a stunning 14-0 victory meaning their Trophy truimph saw 26 goals scored in just three games.
