African giants seek passage to next CAF Champions League assignments

With the CAF Champions League commencing this weekend, the likes of Al Ahly, ES Tunis and Al Ahly are preparing to complete their missions in the second preliminary round after recording big wins in their first-leg encounters.

Reigning champions Al Ahly will take a 3-0 aggregate lead into their home fixture against Gor Mahia at the Cairo International Stadium on Saturday.

In news that made headlines in African football this week, Gor Mahia coach Leonardo Neiva expressed that his side has what it takes to overturn Al Ahly's 3-0 advantage in Egypt. While Neiva dubbed the two-legged affair as an 'unfair pairing', Al Ahly remain on course to bag their 13th CAF Champions League title this season.

Elsewhere, ES Tunis will face Dekedaha at Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi in their second-leg, second preliminary encounter on Saturday. The Tunisian side piled on Dekedaha's misery in their previous fixture, as goals by Yan Sasse, Youcef Belaili (2) and Yassine Meriah saw ES Tunis walk to a 4-1 victory in Rades.

Also, PSL giants Mamelodi Sundowns will take a 4-0 aggregate lead into their second-leg tie against Mbabane Swallows at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Saturday evening.

Now under the tutelage of Manqoba Mngqithi, the South African side will once again bid to win their second CAF Champions League title this season.
