Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has challenged Egyptian star Mohamed Salah to maintain his current brilliant run of form.
The Pharaohs attacker has racked up an incredible 15 goals and 11 assists in 16 Premier League appearances this season, helping propel the Reds to a commanding lead at the top of the log as they seek to win the title for just the second time since 1990.
Salah's future at the club remains uncertain – his current contract expires at the end of the 2024-25 season – but Van Dijk feels that the Egyptian needs only to focus on keeping up the incredible standards he has set in the past few months.
"The numbers speak for themselves," Van Dijk said about his teammate. "He's a very special athlete. He's done amazingly for the club.
"And hopefully he can play his best season ever for the club. Stay important with his goals and assists and be clinical.
"But we need always the complete performance from him. All the defensive work he can put in for us as well is very important as well for the last line, the goalkeeper, he has to keep going and I think he will.
"He is a professional. We've been there, he's been there, so onto the next. And next season? I don't know."
Salah and Van Dijk will look to inspire Liverpool to another Premier League victory when they face Leicester City at Anfield on the evening of Thursday 26 December.
