Ornstein: How much Chelsea have to pay to break player obligation to buy and if they will do it

The Athletic's transfer expert David Ornstein has revealed how much Chelsea will need to pay to break an obligation to buy one player.
A lot has been said and reported on this one lately, with it being revealed that Chelsea could pay a fee to send Jadon Sancho back to Manchester United this summer.
Fabrizio Romano has already reported on a couple of occasions that Chelsea are signing Sancho permanently this summer despite any other noise, but I am wondering now whether he still thinks this.
Sancho is on loan at Chelsea until the end of the season but the expectation has always been that they would be signing him permanently due to an obligation to buy in the deal if Chelsea finished above 14th place in the Premier League, which they will.
But due to his recent form, many are questioning whether Chelsea will actually now buy him or whether they will be using this option to pay a fee to send him back to United this summer.
Ornstein has the latest
According to Ornstein, Chelsea must pay Manchester United £5m if Jadon Sancho's loan is not turned permanent in summer.
But from what he is saying, it does not sound like Chelsea are planning to do this and seem to be moving forward with the permanent deal.
He goes on to say that relations between Chelsea and Sancho are strong and the club's intention to sign a new winger in the upcoming market relates more to uncertainly over Mikhailo Mudryk's availability.
It will be interesting to see what happens with this one but clearly it will all now be down to how Sancho performs for the rest of this season.
He started very well at Chelsea but then tailed off and has actually been very poor in recent games.
