Chesterfield FC Women earn a point on the road

A brilliant performance from Chesterfield FC Women earned them a point on the road this afternoon in a 2-2 draw away at Sherwood. The Spireites started off brilliantly with some quality passages of play in the forward positions and some excellent defending. Their efforts paid off in the 21st minute when Lucy Graham played Paige Singleton through, and her shot rolled in to put Chesterfield one-nil up. The second half started with an unbelievable double save from Rhianne Carroll. The Spireites keeper rose high to get her fingertips to a long-range shot and a split second later was down bravely to deny an oncoming Sherwood striker. Still on top and pushing for a second goal, the Spireites hit a post through Faye Delaney in the 62nd minute of the game. Chesterfield did get their second in style in the 75th minute. Graham did well to hold the ball up whilst waiting for reinforcements, which came in the form of Steph O’Brien who looped Graham’s lay-off over the Sherwood keeper to double their lead.
