Football fans up and down the country mourn the loss of peak Soccer AM every week as they start their Saturday matchday routine.

But it turns out supporters aren't the only ones who miss the iconic Sky programme, as football legend Cristiano Ronaldo loved it too.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner is now playing out his twilight years in Saudi Arabia with Al Nassr, but recently admitted that he was a huge fan of the show when he played in England with Manchester United.

Asked by former Red Devils teammate Rio Ferdinand if he remembered the Showboat segment of Soccer AM on his podcast, he said: “The mindset has changed because I realised that the goals for our positions is more important than f***ing stepovers, which is good to showboat."

And that was the Portugal icon’s favourite part of the show.

Ferdinand then replied: “You used to sit there and watch Sky [and] when the Showboat segment come on, he used to go ‘ayyyyy'."

Soccer AM was axed by Sky at the end of the 2022/23 season.

It has since been replaced by the Saturday Social, with content creators and YouTubers featured.

Last month, former Soccer AM duo Helen Chamberlain and Tim Lovejoy confirmed they would reunite for a new podcast.

The show, Soccer A-Z, was released on September 4.

Soccer AM began in 2004 but was at its peak in the 2000s.

That coincided nicely with Ronaldo's arrival at Old Trafford, with him signing for Man United in 2003 from Sporting Lisbon.

He left United in for Real Madrid in 2009 for a then world record fee of £80 million.

The show was still running when he returned for his second spell with the club in 2021.

But it ended the year he signed in the Saudi Pro League, with Sky putting it down to the ‘evolving needs of our customers’.
