Exclusive: Man City accelerate Dani Olmo interest after La Liga reject registration

Man City are accelerating their interest in Dani Olmo after Barcelona’s bid to register him was rejected by La Liga, sources have told Football Insider.

Premier League clubs are circling the 26-year-old amid new doubts over his future with the Catalan giants.

City have identified Olmo as their leading target for replace Kevin De Bruyne at the Etihad Stadium.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (30 December) that De Bruyne, 33, is increasingly likely to leave Man City when his contract ends at the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign.

He is the subject of strong interest from Saudi Pro League clubs and could even move in January – but City will not let him leave the club without securing a replacement.

Olmo could fit the bill as a successor to the Belgian this month as the possibility of an extraordinary move grows.

He joined Barcelona in August from RB Leipzig but Barcelona are struggling to register the playmaker as they cannot meet La Liga’s wage cap.

Olmo is ‘leading target’ to replace De Bruyne at Man City

The 26-year-old has made 15 appearances across all competitions this term, notching six goals and one assist.

He hit 29 goals and provided 34 assists in 148 matches for Leipzig before securing a dream return to Barca in the summer window.

Olmo won the European Championships with Spain in the off-season, scoring three goals and notching two assists to help his country to the trophy.

Man City look in need of reinforcements throughout the spine of their side with Pep Guardiola’s men sitting sixth in the table after 19 games.
