Wigan Athletic have rejected a bid from Preston North End for goalkeeper Sam Tickle, sources have told Football Insider.
The Championship side have set their sights on improving their options between the sticks but have been knocked back in their approach for the 22-year-old.
Tickle has been ever-present for Wigan in League One this season under manager Sean Maloney.
He has made 30 starts in all competitions this term, conceding 28 goals and keeping 13 clean sheets.
The shot-stopper’s only time out of the Latics’ side has come in the EFL Trophy, where back-up Tom Watson came into the starting eleven.
Tickle is a product of the Wigan academy and made his professional debut in October 2021.
He has made 84 senior appearances across all competitions for the Latics, with the vast majority of those outings coming in League One.
The Warrington-born ace signed a new contract with his boyhood club last year (2024) and that deal is set to run until June 2028.
Preston see late Tickle bid rejected
Tickle made his England Under-21 debut in March 2024 and kept a clean sheet in a win over Luxembourg.
Preston are currently lining up with experienced goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, 27, between the sticks.
He is set to enter the final six months of his contract at Deepdale after joining from Newcastle in 2022.
Paul Heckingbottom’s side sit 14th in the Championship table after winning their last two second-tier games.
Meanwhile, Wigan are 16th in League One under Maloney and have pulled 12 points clear of the relegation zone.
