Arsenal have made a solid start to the new campaign with 17 points taken from their opening seven games.

Mikel Arteta has to be satisfied with how things have gone so far with the Gunners sat in third spot of the Premier League table amid the latest international break.

With seven games under their belt, Arsenal are sitting in third spot and just one point off the league leaders, Liverpool.

And there has been the usual impressive performers on display for Arteta despite losing Martin Odegaard to an ankle injury in the previous international break.

However, there has recently been question marks raised as to whether one of their top performers is actually world class.

Who Ally McCoist said is not world class at Arsenal

Over the last few years Arteta has been able to take Arsenal on an impressive rise to the top end of the Premier League table.

The Gunners have been able to build a team around some of Europe’s top players in their position with the likes of Bukayo Saka showing his worth.

However, there is another of Arsenal’s top performers who Ally McCoist does not quite feel is at the world class lebel just yet.

Speaking on TalkSPORT on Tuesday, the former Rangers player claimed William Saliba is yet to show his quality for long enough to become world class.

"One of the best centre-backs in the country, probably Europe, if not the world,” McCoist said.

“Not done it for long enough yet. The fact of the matter is that he is only recently getting into the French side. Not yet world class for me."

Where William Saliba ranks among Arsenal players this season

It has been another solid start to the season by Arsenal’s defence with just six goals conceded over their opening seven games.

The Gunners come in as the second-best ranked defence in the league with Liverpool out in front having only allowed two goals so far.

However, Saliba does not rank so highly among his Arsenal teammates, according to SofaScore‘s player ratings metrics.

But this is a defender who has been hailed as ‘brilliant‘ following two seriously impressive full seasons in the Premier League.
