Five clubs Marcus Rashford could join in January following bombshell Manchester United transfer revelation

Marcus Rashford has put potential suitors on red alert after he sensationally opened the door to a Manchester United exit.

The 27-year-old has spent two decades at his boyhood club, but has revealed he is ‘ready for a new challenge’ ahead of the January transfer window.

Rashford’s bombshell comments came just two days after he was left out of Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils squad for their derby win over rivals Manchester City.

Boss Amorim has since had his say on the England international, where he stressed that he would he happy to keep him at Old Trafford.

Though he did concede that the forward is ‘right’ to seek a new challenge – which could materialise in the New Year.

talkSPORT understands that United are open to offers for the two-time FA Cup winner who has scored 138 goals in 426 matches for the club.

Rashford was heavily linked with a move away in 2022, but he ended uncertainty over his future last year after penning a five-year deal.

But United know that despite Rashford tied down at the club until 2028, they may be forced into a cut-price sale should they wish to part ways.

The academy graduate is one of the club’s biggest earners where he pockets the best part of £400,000-a-week including bonuses.

His hefty wages could put off any interested clubs who would be willing to offer Rashford the chance to reinvent himself.

Rashford has so far struggled for consistency this season – chipping in with seven goals and three assists from 24 games in all competitions.

But there can be no denying his obvious talent, and with the player facing an uncertain future, talkSPORT.com takes a look at five possible clubs he could link up with.

Arsenal

Arsenal are known to be in the market to strengthen their front line, with boss Mikel Arteta a huge fan of versatile players.

Should the Gunners press ahead with a move for Rashford, he could slot in at left wing over out-of-form duo Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.

While he would also offer stiff competition for striker Kai Havertz, who is yet to fully convince fans he should be the starting centre-forward in the years to come.

Arsenal have shown in recent years they aren’t scared of poaching star players from rivals clubs having brought in Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from City, Havertz, Jorginho and Raheem Sterling from Chelsea and Declan Rice from West Ham.

Though journalist Henry Winter, who Rashford candidly spoke to about his future, isn’t convinced he will end up in north London.

The talkSPORT columnist said on White and Jordan: “Arsenal, with Martinelli there are various issues. But no, absolutely no indication [he will go there].”

Chelsea

The Blues already raided United on deadline day in the summer to bring in winger Jadon Sancho on an initial loan deal.

Sancho struggled for form at United, but has rediscovered his love for the game in west London having been directly involved in seven goals from 12 matches.

And Chelsea could be looking for a similar outcome with Rashford should they decide to press ahead with a move with the club to potentially be in the market for a new winger.

Mykhailo Mudryk has been provisionally suspended by the Blues following a failed drugs test.

The Ukrainian is facing a lengthy ban after testing positive for banned substance Meldonium in an FA urine sample.

Paris Saint-Germain

PSG were the club that failed to sign Rashford in 2022, but have retained their interest in the player, with talkSPORT reporting how they considered a move to sign him in the summer.

Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is known to be a massive admirer of Rashford having met with his representatives before and after he signed his United contract extension.

And PSG could press ahead with a move for Rashford in January with the club yet to replace Kylian Mbappe up top, while they have heavily relied on winger Bradley Barcola this term, who has scored ten out of their 40 Ligue 1 goals.

Though it remains to be seen whether PSG will turn their interest into a formal bid having opted to sign younger players as opposed to star names in recent transfer windows.

Commenting on whether Rashford would be an option for the French giants, talkSPORT correspondent Ben Jacobs said on the Sports Breakfast show: “The PSG camp felt they were being used as leverage to get Rashford what he wanted at Manchester United.

“Therefore PSG would not move for Rashford unless they’re given a come-and-get-me plea, and you could argue that maybe the interview with Henry Winter is a come-and-get-me plea.”

Barcelona

While Barca are stacked full of forwards, they could view Rashford as a long-term successor to striker Robert Lewandowski, who is now 36-years-old.

Commenting on interest in him, Jacobs remarked: “You’ve got [a move to] Spain as a possibility, Barcelona have explored Rashford.

“But the wages are a stumbling block.”

As for Winter’s view on Barca as a potential destination, he simply stated: “Barcelona, do they have the money?”

Saudi Arabia

If there’s one place that could not only match Rashford’s current wages – but increase them – it’s Saudi Arabia.

talkSPORT understands that clubs including Al Ittihad – managed by ex-United defender Laurent Blanc – are keeping close tabs on Rashford’s situation.

But it is believed that Rashford is aware that playing in the Middle East could harm his chances of being selected for England for the 2026 World Cup – providing the Three Lions qualify.

Commenting on a potential Saudi switch, Jacobs said: “I think Europe is the key word because Rashford has to think at 27 where does he stand the best opportunity of playing and giving himself the chance to also have England selection.

“And therefore, although there are Saudi suitors, I think it’s less likely in 2025 – January or summer – that Saudi Arabia will be a destination.

“That said, central dealmakers met with Manchester United in January 2023 and Rashford along with Casemiro and Raphael Varane were noted as possibilities of players that might become available in the next few windows.”

Jacobs added: “Al Qadsiah and Al Ittihad – both of those teams have told Michael Emenalo [Saudi Pro League sports director] that if Rashford is available in the market, they want in.”
