Gary Neville says whether Heung-min Son's controversial goal for Tottenham should have been disallowed vs Man United

Heung-min Son’s extraordinary goal direct from a corner proved to be the winner as Tottenham beat Manchester United, however, there was much controversy around the match-winning moment.
Son’s goal saved Tottenham’s blushes as they nearly allowed a three-goal to slip. The North London club cruised into a three-goal lead but two mistakes from Fraser Forster nearly ended up costing them, but now, a semi-final clash with Liverpool now awaits.
During the match, Gary Neville offered his verdict on Son’s goal and Tottenham’s fourth as Man United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was furious. The referee was happy to allow the goal to stand and it ended up being the winning goal.
Why Altay Bayindir was fuming at Heung-min Son’s goal
Altay Bayindir did not cover himself in glory for Man United as he conceded four times against Ange Postecoglou’s side. However, it was his poor aerial ability for Spurs’ fourth goal which is drawing him much stick.
The Turkish shot stopper was seething at John Brooks who allowed Son’s goal to stand. He believes that Lucas Bervall impeded his ability to reach the ball but the referee saw nothing wrong with the incident.
The ball ended up flying all the way in from the corner and ensured the Lilywhites would reach their first semi-final since 2021.
Gary Neville’s verdict on Tottenham’s fourth goal vs Man United
Gary Neville believes that Tottenham’s fourth goal against Man United was right to stand and Bayindir needed to be more physical in his area. United’s second choice keeper claimed Lucas Bergvall’s hand impeded his ability to get his arm to the ball.
The former Red Devils man claimed he had little sympathy for Bayindir and called for the 26-year-old to be more commanding in his penalty area. There was no VAR to overturn the decision and even if there was, Neville believes the right decision was reached.
Neville said live on Sky Sports: “It is a relieved bunch of Tottenham players in that far corner. Bayindir is saying that his arm was touched. I think he's saying Bergvall interferes with him. I think he thinks the right hand of Bergvall comes on top of him. It touches his left hand and it goes for it with his right. It's a mess. I have no sympathy for goalkeepers who get pushed off the ball by defenders.
“He is fuming but I still think he has to be stronger and punch it. There is no VAR, he is not going to get away with it. He maybe doesn't know there is no VAR. But he has got to be stronger, even if there may be a slight touch.”
