Report: Martin Odegaard is now actually trying to convince £10m star to sign for Arsenal instead of Man United

Arsenal and Manchester United have been their fierce rivals for decades.

During the peak of Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson’s footballing enmity from the mid 90s to the early 2000s, there was no love lost between Arsenal and Manchester United.

From 1996 until 2005, either of the two clubs won the Premier League title in what was a special time for English football.

But as things stand, Mikel Arteta’s side certainly have the upper hand over Ruben Amorim and Co — as the Gunners are sitting in second place in the league table while the Red Devils are languishing in 13th.

Now, Arsenal and Man United are going head-to-head again but this time to secure the services of Sverre Nypan.

TBR Football revealed in November that Manchester United were confident about signing Nypan and that too in the January transfer window.

Manchester United were pushing ahead for talks with Nypan, who is one of Europe’s most prodigious talents.

But sources told TBR Football on Friday that Arsenal were leading the race to sign Nypan, who Rosenborg value at £10 million.

The 18-year-old is a central midfielder by trade who can also play further forward and as a makeshift striker.

GiveMeSport have now revealed that Martin Odegaard is trying to convince Nypan to sign for Arsenal and reject a move to Manchester United.

The report also claims that a promising offer from Mikel Arteta’s side has made the proposition of heading to the Emirates Stadium an attractive one for the Norwegian.

It has been stated that for Manchester United, Arsenal becoming increasing favourites is a matter of huge concern as they looked set to seal an agreement for the teenager when they opened talks to sign him last month.

A further claim that has been made is that Borussia Dortmund have also made a proposal to sign Nypan.

The highly-touted technician has scored 15 goals and provided eights assists in his career.

However, Nypan’s 13 goals and eight assists have come at the senior level playing in the Eliteserien, which is Norway’s top-flight league.

Sverre Nypan has been compared to Martin Odegaard

In 2022, Rosenborg boss Kjetil Rekdal claimed that Nypan is stronger than Odegaard was at his age but claimed that the now-Arsenal captain was more of a complete player.

Rekdal told TV2: “Sverre is probably bigger and physically stronger at the same time than Martin Odegaard was, but then he was perhaps a different type of player than Sverre, who is an all-rounder.”

But at the time, it is important to understand that Nypan was just 15 years old.

Furthermore, Odegaard, dubbed “special” by Ruben Amorim was a one-of-a-kind talent.

Norwegian football expert Jesper Mathisen, however feels the pair are quote similar.

Mathisen said last year while speaking to TV2: “Sverre Nypan is extremely exciting, and I get a bit of the same feeling as when I saw Martin Odegaard break through as a boy.”

Odegaard, who Martin Keown lauded must rate Nypan extremely highly as well.

Otherwise, the former Real Madrid midfielder would not have gone out of his way to persuade his countryman to head to London.

Manchester United back themselves to sign Patrick Dorgu and they will be hoping Nypan becomes yet another wonderkid who they feel confident is keen on a move to Old Trafford.
