Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori has taken to social media to share a training ground update ahead of the first Premier League game of 2025 against Brentford (January 1).

The 22-year-old didn’t make it off the bench for Arsenal’s 1-0 Premier League win over Ipswich in their last game of 2024 with Mikel Arteta preferring youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Calafiori made his comeback in their 5-1 win over Crystal Palace having picked up a groin injury, forcing him to miss the previous four games.

The Italy international has struggled with injuries since joining in the summer, missing a total of 11 games for club and country.

Arsenal will be without Bukayo Saka, Raheem Sterling, Ben White, and Takehiro Tomiyasu for their trip to the G-Tech Stadium but their injury woes pale in comparison to that of Brentford.

Thomas Frank’s side are currently navigating their way through the worst injury crisis in the Premier League, with 11 first-team players currently out of action.

Calafiori has impressed when he’s played, starting ten of his 14 games across all competitions, scoring one goal, and providing one assist in 868 minutes of action.

Arteta’s side will be hoping to take full advantage of Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Ipswich on Monday (December 30) and cement their position as the main rivals to Liverpool’s title charge with a win taking them into second, six points behind the league leaders.

Brentford, who have earned 22 of their 24 points at home, won’t be pushovers despite their ongoing injury crisis and will no doubt do everything they can to rain on Arsenal’s parade.

The defender took to Instagram ahead of the game against the West London club to share images of himself and his teammates training.

Arsenal have a tricky run of fixtures throughout January, including games against Newcastle, Man United, and a North London derby against arch-rivals Tottenham.

Arteta’s side will travel to out-of-form Brighton just three days after the game against Brentford as they aim to keep pace with Liverpool.
