Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold will not see Liverpool go “overboard” when it comes to potential wage increases for the trio in talks over new contracts, as per the Daily Mirror.

With all three set to be out of contract at Anfield in the summer, there is plenty of talk about how many of the trio will remain at the club beyond the end of this season.

Indeed, they will be entitled to speak to clubs abroad about pre-contract agreements from January, and the Reds’ stance over increasing their wages in new deals has now been revealed.

Liverpool are reportedly willing to increase Salah’s weekly wage from £350,000 to no more than £400,000, with the Egyptian expecting a raise.

Van Dijk is also said to want an increase on his salary of £220,000 per week, but that the Merseyside club will be reluctant to go “overboard” with an increase.

Even so, it is Alexander-Arnold whose wage situation could be the most “problematic” for Liverpool, who are said to be willing to increase his wage per week from £170,000 to £250,000.

The concern though is that the right-back has apparently been told by his advisers that he could earn an increase of £100,000 per week with a move elsewhere, amid talk about a potential switch to Real Madrid.

Liverpool must be careful over contract talks with Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold

Football Insider Opinion

It is important that those in charge of things at Anfield find the right balance when it comes to talks over wages even for these three players.

On the one hand, we are talking arguably the three most important players in the Liverpool squad right now, and for some years.

There will therefore be a major inquest at the club if they lose any or all of the trio for free at the end of the season when considering how much they are worth in the transfer market otherwise.

That may happen if they cannot get the right offer on the table when it comes to those talks if all three are looking for hefty increases in pay.

However, every player does have their price and Liverpool may have to strike that balance as they look to keep funds available for potential new signings, especially with Salah and Van Dijk in their thirties already.

All of that means there are going to be what you would imagine are some rather delicate negotiations going on behind the scenes at Anfield with these three players for the foreseeable future.

In other news, Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been hailed for “tricking” Ange Postecoglou.
