Manchester United finally returned to winning ways in the Premier League against Brentford on Saturday, coming from behind to create a rare feel-good feeling at Old Trafford.

Prior to beating Brentford, Man United hadn't won in the league since Marcus Rashford helped Erik ten Hag's side overcome Southampton 3-0 away from home in September.

Ten Hag's future was much discussed over the international break, and many believe that he's currently fighting to save his job before the next in November.

United have three more Premier League fixtures before then, amid two Europa League ties and a date in the EFL Cup.

Man United's hierarchy had a lengthy meeting over Ten Hag's future prior to the Brentford win, which fans will hope is a sign of improvement.

Alejandro Garnacho celebrated for vital role in United’s win over Brentford

That being said, Alan Shearer chose to include one United player in his Team of the Week.

Alejandro Garnacho scored a stunning volley to get United level at the start of the second half, a goal that also owed a lot of credit to Rashford.

Garnacho played on the left wing against Brentford, which usually yields better results for the young Argentinian.

And after enduring a fairly frustrating start to the new campaign, Garnacho will surely now be determined to produce this sort of performance on a regular basis.

Shearer called the United winger the 'standout player' in the victory, appreciating his tidy finish.

He said: "Tucked away his goal superbly and was Man Utd's standout player as they got a much-needed win.”

Garnacho buys Ten Hag more time

After their much-needed win, United have now moved up to 12th in the table, a standing they'll still be very disappointed with.

But given West Ham United's defensive woes right now, there's no reason to think that United couldn't make it two from two next weekend.

Perhaps a lot of supporters at Old Trafford will be willing their manager to name a similar team for the visit to the London Stadium.

Ten Hag is famous for his chopping and changing – and not in a positive way.

Either way, with Garnacho back firing and Rasmus Hojlund alongside him, there's certainly still hope for this United project yet.
