Striker who scored just 13 goals for Newcastle now says he was better than Liverpool's Mohamed Salah

Newcastle United have had some truly legendary strikers over the years.
Alan Shearer is one of the game's all-time greats, Les Ferdinand was a legend in his own right at numerous clubs, while Andy Cole was also a true Premier League icon.
Patrick Kluivert may not be a Newcastle legend in the same way the aforementioned players are, but Kluivert is certainly a legend of the game.
Kluivert was one of the great goalscorers of his generation for both Barcelona and Ajax, and speaking to ESPN on TikTok, the Dutchman has been comparing himself to some of the game's great attackers.
As humble as ever, Kluivert rated himself highly in the pantheon of the game's greats.
Patrick Kluivert ranks himself higher than Mohamed Salah
Kluivert made no secret of how much he rates himself.
The Dutchman ranked himself above the likes of Erling Haaland, Gabriel Batistuta and Robert Lewandowski, even stating that he was better than Mohamed Salah.
Kluivert did pick Marco van Basten, Ronaldo and Romario ahead of himself, but he clearly sees himself as one of the greats.
Sadly, Newcastle fans didn't get to see Kluivert at his best as he scored just 13 goals for the club during his sole season at St James' Park.
Kluivert compared to Salah
Salah has been described as 'incredible' for his performances this season, and he's certainly one of the greats of the game.
Sofyan Amrabat recently stated that Salah is even better than Didier Drogba was.
In fact, despite the fact Salah is still playing at the very top level, he does have stronger career statistics than Kluivert in a lot of ways.
Mohamed Salah career statistics | Patrick Kluivert career statistics | |
Club games | 616 | 479 |
Club goals | 297 | 206 |
International games | 103 | 79 |
International goals | 59 | 40 |
Kluivert rates himself higher than Salah, and this is an interesting debate.
Salah has scored more goals than Kluivert in his career, and there’s still more to come, but Kluivert does have a better ratio in terms of goals to games.
However, longevity is an important attribute to consider, and Salah has the edge there.
Of course, to compare these two is to compare apples and oranges. Salah is a quick, direct winger who plays in a much faster era, while Kluivert was a more physical striker who played in a completely different time.
Both men will undoubtedly go down as true legends of the game, but, when all is said and done, Salah may well leave behind the greater legacy for his impact on the sport.
