Todibo U-turn: 'West Ham defender pushes for exit under Graham Potter'
Jean-Clair Todibo has made a U-turn in his stance on his future at West Ham, as per a report from Sky Sports Transfer Centre.
The centre-back joined the Hammers on loan from Ligue 1 club Nice in the summer transfer window, in a deal that includes an obligation to buy for £34.22million (BBC Sport).
It was reported on 23 January that Todibo had told the Premier League side he is keen to stay at the London Stadium, following interest from Marseille (The Athletic).
That stance had seemingly been aided by the appointment of Graham Potter as West Ham manager, given the defender was said to have clashed with the club’s previous boss, Julien Lopetegui.
However, a later update the same day has now stated that Juventus are taking an interest in the 25-year-old who is now said to be pushing to leave the Hammers in order to join the Italian giants.
It is noted that Todibo stalled on his move to the London Stadium in the summer while there was interest from Juve.
West Ham would apparently want any deal to be a loan move that includes an obligation to buy, while Juventus favour a loan deal that includes an option for a permanent deal.
Jean-Clair Todibo transfer saga another issue for Graham Potter at West Ham
Football Insider Verdict
This latest update on Todibo and his desire to leave the club is not going to be something Potter would have wanted to deal with, despite his injury issues.
It has been a largely underwhelming season so far for West Ham, and the former Brighton and Chelsea manager has had a mixed start to his time in charge.
He would therefore want to focus on strengthening the side and laying foundations to improve and climb up the table with more positive results.
Todibo’s stance here though means he has another distraction in the form of a player who seemingly wants to leave the club, a move which would leave them short on options at centre-back.
Football Insiderunderstands West Ham are already looking to add two more players to their squad in what remains of the January transfer window.
Losing Todibo could mean they need to add even beyond that, which could make for a busy and somewhat tense end to the market at the London Stadium.
Given the player himself recently suggested he was keen to stay in a message to supporters as well, this update may leave a bitter taste in their mouths too.
