Two sources rubbish claims over Brighton transfer – Not even in contact with Seagulls

It would appear nothing about Valentín Barco is ever simple.

After his loan to Sevilla turned into something of a disaster, although he managed to get engaged off the pitch so that’s something, the media closest to the Spanish club have explained Barco has been packing his bags and will return to Brighton.

On Friday, Sevilla manager García Pimienta held a pre-match press conference and told reporters Barco had asked not to travel with the club for their match against Almeria because he’s sorting his future out.

Claims from outside of Portugal have presented FC Porto as his next loan destination, but the Portuguese media haven’t really been going big on that. Such a reaction is odd given they likely would be if a move was close, especially if Brighton had agreed to a buying option as reported.

Now, there’s some claims from Portugal which perhaps make it clear why.

Saturday’s edition of Record states: ‘FC Porto did not make contact with Brighton, not even with Valentín Barco, with a view to signing the Argentine left-back.’

A Bola, another Portuguese newspaper, reports Barco is ‘out of the plans’ at Porto and adds: ‘A source from the Dragons denied to A Bola that there was any agreement for a transfer with an option to purchase with Brighton.’

Those are pretty strong denials and it may be a case of agents being at work and leaking to the media that a deal is further along than it actually is, thereby annoying Porto… or the whole thing was complete nonsense.
