Joao Gomes attracted plenty of attention from some big stars as the Wolves midfielder took to social media while away on international duty.

The 24-year-old has been one of the standout performers for Vitor Pereira, creating a formidable partnership with Andre to form a base, allowing Matheus Cunha and Jorgen Strand Larsen to attack.

Having struggled under Gary O’Neil, the West Midlands club looked set to be relegated from the Premier League this season, but the team are now nine points above the dreaded dropzone.

Cunha, who has been heavily linked with a Wolves exit, is one of the key factors in the club staying out of the Championship ahead of next season, but Gomes’ performances have somewhat gone under the radar.

Taking to Instagram [23 March], Gomes posted images of himself alongside the Brazilian squad, captioned simply with a Brazil flag.

Man City’s Jeremy Doku and Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior liked the post, so too did Lucas Paqueta, Gabriel Magalhaes, Savinho, Evanilson and Joelinton.

Football Insider verdict

Pereira looks unlikely to come to the same demise as O’Neil at Wolves, at least not any time soon with the team steadily avoiding the relegation zone ahead of the Premier League run-in.

The Wanderers have lost just one of their last five games across all competitions, albeit that did include being knocked out of the FA Cup by Bournemouth in a penalty shootout.

Bournemouth 1 (5)-(4) 1 WolvesFA Cup

Bournemouth 0-1 WolvesPremier League

There is still plenty of time left for twists and turns, but with a summer of change likely ahead of them either way, Pereira might struggle next season unless the hierarchy delves into the summer transfer market.

In addition to Cunha, Strand Larsen and Carlos Forbes will return to their respective clubs, while the likes of Rayan Ait-Nouri and Nelson Semedo are being linked with exits.

It could be a very difficult 2025/26 campaign ahead for Wolves, especially if multiple stars are to leave at the end of the current season, but that will only be a worry for the manager once the transfer window opens.
