Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is looking forward to 2025 and is now able to negotiate with foreign clubs over a summer transfer.

The 33-year-old, who is out of contract in six months, is free to negotiate a pre-agreement deal with foreign clubs for a move at the end of the season.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool have offered Van Dijk a new deal but the two parties are still some way off an agreement.

Van Dijk is one of three key Liverpool players, alongside Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is yet to agree a new deal at the club.

Real Madrid have reportedly already had an approach for Alexander-Arnold rejected by Liverpool with the club having no intention of letting the right-back leave mid-season.

The centre-back remains a pivotal player for Arne Slot’s side, starting all 24 of his games across all competitions, scoring two goals, and providing one assist in his 2160 minutes of action.

Van Dijk took to Instagram on New Year’s Eve to celebrate a successful age, saying: “Thank you 2024, on to 2025.”

Liverpool start the new year with a bang, hosting Ruben Amorim’s struggling Man United side on Sunday (January 5) in their first game of 2025.

They will then travel to North London to face out-of-form Tottenham in the League Cup semi-final as they seek to retain the trophy.
