On Tuesday, we covered claims from Spain which stated Victor Orta was already making moves to sign Archie Gray from Tottenham Hotspur in the winter market.

The gist was that the Sevilla director of football would have a big advantage in any pursuit of the 18-year-old because he worked with him previously when the pair were at Leeds United.

Sevilla, as per the plan, would take Gray on loan for the rest of the season, with him filling a loanee slot they still have available.

We explained it all felt very unlikely. Partly due to the big investment that Tottenham made when signing the youngster from Leeds, which was just a few months ago, and partly because of Sevilla’s recent record with loaning talents from Premier League clubs.

Specifically, the loan of Alejo Véliz, from Tottenham themselves, was a disaster in the second half of last season, along with Sevilla taking Hannibal Mejbri from Manchester United.

Estadio Deportivo, a sport newspaper local to Sevilla, are already raising the white flag. They believe Tottenham will be able to give Gray minutes as the season goes on and there’s more cup games, and that the Véliz loan, during which the Argentine only got 31 minutes of action, is another factor.

That should be that, then.
