West Ham United are a contender to sign Ajax’s Brian Brobbey in the winter market and this has been reported over the past few days.

At the weekend, we covered claims from the Dutch media that West Ham are ready to go to ‘great lengths’ to sign him. He travelled to London, but his agent didn’t confirm whether the trip was related to a potential transfer.

On Tuesday, De Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij stated the striker would pick Tottenham Hotspur over West Ham, but made it sound like the Hammers are preferable to Everton. The north London club haven’t moved, and this clearly gives the Hammers an advantage to try and sign the 22-year-old.

The Netherlands international’s teammate, Wout Weghorst, has been speaking to Ajax TV and his comments are relayed by Soccer News. The former Manchester United and Burnley man has encouraged his compatriot to join Graham Potter’s side in this window.

“I told him that they are really nice clubs, and that he should absolutely do that,” he said.

Weghorst chatted Brobbey after reports of West Ham, Spurs and Everton interest surfaced online.

"But of course we were on the plane back, and then everything came online. He was sitting behind me, and I said: ‘Those are really nice clubs, you should do it’,” Weghorst explained.

The frontman is of the belief the West Ham target seems to be distracted by the transfer links and insists it’s part of football.

"That happens, and that is inherent to football. Especially in this transfer period. Then that plays out and that comes up. Each time with different people. Also, with him. That’s just part of football,” he added.

SoccerNews, carrying the quotes, very much believe Weghorst was referring to West Ham.
