Reports: Juventus, Chelsea agree to loan deal for Renato Veiga

Having some defensive depth sounds like a nice change of pace.
For the second time in a week, Juventus have turned toward the country of Portugal to provide themselves with some much-needed depth in defense.
This one, however, is much more of a short-term fix.
Juventus and Chelsea have agreed to a short-term loan deal for Portuguese defender Renato Veiga, according to reports out of Italy from Fabrizio Romano and SportItalia's Alfredo Pedulla. The 21-year-old center back who can also play on the left had only signed with Chelsea from FC Basel last summer in a move worth €14 million, but he had only made a combined 13 appearances between the Premier League and the UEFA Conference League, thus making him very much available to make a January loan move. Juventus reportedly beat out the likes of Borussia Dortmund and others to secure Veiga's services through the second half of the 2024-25 season.
Juventus will reportedly pay a loan fee of around €4.5-€5 million to secure Veiga's services for the next six months — which probably speaks more to the Bianconeri's desperation to finally secure an option behind Federico Gatti and Pierre Kalulu more than anything else. Chelsea are reportedly covering Veiga's salary for the next six months and agent fees, according to Sky Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio.

Rumors of Juventus pivoting to trying to sign Veiga started over the weekend and picked up steam as the week began. With Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal out for the season and Danilo very much out of the project and still waiting for a resolution of his contract, Juve have been working with just two central defenders for the last month. Veiga would simply give Juventus manager Thiago Motta an alternative to Federico Gatti and Pierre Kalulu — who have played the most minutes out of any Juve players in all competitions this season.
It is still unknown when Veiga will arrive in Italy to undergo his medical exams, but you have to think it will be over the next couple of days considering the Randal Kolo Muani — another short-term loan deal to address depth issues — looks like it's all set to finally be finalized.
