Birmingham City on the verge of Norwich City transfer swoop
Today at 10:25 AM
Birmingham City are set to sign Norwich City’s Grant Hanley with the defender undergoing a medical, according to The Pink Un.
Birmingham City have started their quest to return to the Championship well, sitting top of League One. BCFC even have two games in hand over their rivals with Wrexham and Wycombe Wanderers in hot pursuit.
After such a strong summer window, the Blues have handled the pressure well and look Championship bound.
Chris Davies’ side though are expected to strengthen once again in January. After spending heavily they, still have room for more and Davies wants fresh faces.
Now, as per The Pink Un, Birmingham City are poised to complete the signing of Norwich City man Grant Hanley. It is said that Hanley is set for a medical with the Blues, with the Canaries prepared to terminate his contract to allow him to make the move.
Hanley is out of favour at Carrow Road having only made four appearances so far this season. The Scottish international was phased out of the team last season after being a regular since signing in 2017.
BCFC allowed defender Dion Sanderson to leave for Blackburn Rovers this window. It looks as though Hanley will take his place as cover and competition in defence.
Promotion experience
As Birmingham City push for promotion, they would be hard pushed to find many players with better experience in that department.
Hanley has three promotions from the Championship on his resume. He was part of the Newcastle United side that won the title in 2017 and he has two promotions to the Premier League with Norwich City as well.
While the Scottish international has never played in League One in his career, he would be a top pickup to have around the squad for BCFC.
What next for Birmingham City?
Birmingham City are unbeaten since the 23rd of November, winning 10 out of their last 12 games in all competitions. They return to League One action this weekend after back-to-back wins in the cups.
They beat Swindon Town in the EFL Trophy last time out after overcoming Lincoln City in the FA Cup at the weekend. Exeter City head to St. Andrews on Saturday in a game the Blues would expect to win.
A win could see Davies’ side extend their lead to as much as five points if Wycombe and Wrexham slip up.
