Birmingham City had been linked with FC Heidenheim’s Lennard Maloney but the American is now set to join FSV Mainz, as per Florian Plettenberg.

Birmingham City are looking to kick on with their promotion bid with the help of some extra additions. BCFC were highly active in the summer, so business is unlikely to be extensive at St. Andrew’s.

However, there is still scope for new faces to join Chris Davies’ ranks as they look to build a strong squad ready to compete in the Championship should they return there.

One man the Blues had been linked with is American midfielder Lennard Maloney, who currently plays in the Bundesliga with FC Heidenheim.

However, links were viewed as ambitious at the time, and it seems the Birmingham City target is indeed set to head elsewhere as he approaches the end of his contract with Heidenheim.

Writing on X, Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has said that Maloney is poised to complete a move from Heidenheim to fellow Bundesliga side FSV Mainz with immediate effect. Given his contract situation, he moves for a nominal fee of less than 1m initially, though bonuses are in place.

It means Maloney will be crossed off the list of potential additions at BCFC, turning attentions elsewhere.
