Birmingham City boss Chris Davies has said there could be a ‘little bit of movement’ in the January transfer window.

Birmingham City’s manager hasn’t ruled out players heading out the exit door this winter.

The Blues are currently eyeing promotion to the Championship.

In this latest update, Davies has said, as per a report by BirminghamLive: “I think that will naturally reshuffle as we approach January and that’s healthy and good for both parties. There might be some that think there’s a different direction needed for them and we might agree and then something can be done.

“On the other hand, players who aren’t playing all the time have to try and work hard to earn their place in the team. I always say they pick the team really, through their performances. If they’re doing enough, they will be in the team. I can imagine in January there’ll be a little bit of movement in a good way.”

Birmingham City have the chance to offload some individuals in a couple of months.

Letting people go would help free up space and funds in their ranks to pave the way for potential new faces.

In addition, it would balance the books and boost their finances.

Centre-back Dion Sanderson has been linked with an exit. According to reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon page, the Blues are ready to loan out the defender.

He has fallen out of favour and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him leave for a new challenge somewhere else, despite the fact he is under contract for another couple of years.

The former Wolves man has played only twice so far this season and is behind Christoph Klarer, Ben Davies and Krystian Bielik in the pecking order.

Birmingham City also have some youngsters like Alfie Chang and Brandon Khela, for example, who may benefit from getting some game time out on loan to another team in the Football League. They will have a few decisions to make and won’t want to leave themselves sort of depth.

What now?

Davies’ side are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Shrewsbury Town as they look to bounce back from their 1-1 draw at home to Northampton Town before the international break. They conceded late on against the Cobblers.

The Blues are 2nd in the table behind Wycombe Wanderers by two points.
